A 60-day journey through the Land Down Under has been cancelled following the death of an older lady who was abandoned by the vessel on a distant coastal location.

The elderly woman had been walking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but separated from the group for a pause. The ship sailed away leaving her and came back after some time after the personnel realised the woman was unaccounted for.

A large-scale hunt found her person the subsequent day.

Investigative bodies are examining the incident, together with law enforcement and the medical examiner.

Head of the voyage organizer said that passengers and staff on the ship were notified that the rest of the journey had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and prior mechanical issues".

In a statement, he added that passengers would be issued a full refund, and said the operator was working "to organize the travel back of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Regulatory bodies also published an latest announcement, and said they had "delivered a order to the Captain" preventing any new passengers from entering the vessel.

The representative said that they would attend the ship in Cairns upon its return.

The liner initially left Cairns on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the voyage at the time of the elderly woman's passing. The remote island was the opening port on the itinerary.

Passengers on the vessel - who typically pay tens of thousands of dollars to join the expedition - were taken there for a day trip with the choice of walking or snorkelling.

The offspring of the elderly passenger said that her loved ones was "stunned and grieved that the ship left Lizard Island after an scheduled tour without my mum".

In her statement, she described her mother as an "energetic octogenarian" who was a participant of a walking club.

"According to scant facts we have been told, it seems that there was a lapse of attention and common sense," she stated.

She continued that she wished the examination would be able to identify what "the operator should have undertaken that might have preserved Mother's being".

"We understand from the authorities that it was a extremely warm period, and mother became unwell on the mountain ascent," she stated.
